Aqua Air 100 TON CHILLER™

Aqua-Air Manufacturing was proud to have been chosen to supply two 100 ton (1,200,000 BTU/H) two-stage screw compressor chiller units for the chiller refit project on a Motoryacht built by Benetti in 2000. The complete installation was handled by Elite Marine A/C of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

This particular unit is very unique in that it was designed from the very beginning with the concept in mind that the entire unit must be able to be disassembled and carried into the yacht through the engine room.

This was accomplished by a significant amount of planning in the design phase. The unit was designed entirely in SolidWorks 3D Software which allowed us to visualize the unit from all angles and create the best possible unit for the space provided.

The two OM100P2VGEK chillers replaced two existing open drive compressor chillers units.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

Each compressor can have its capacity reduced to a minimum of 12.5 Tons which is 25% of its maximum output. As the chill water loop further decreases in temperature the VFDs will reduce compressor speed by 33% reducing capacity to about 8.3 tons. The VFDs also provide for surgeless starting. The current draw of the unit will never exceed it’s rated running amperage draw.

Another unique feature is how seawater is distributed to the seawater condensers. Seawater from a centralized ships source is regulated to each Shell & Tube Condenser through the use of 4-20mA input Modulating Butterfly Valves. An Aqua-Air PLC with Touchscreen Interface monitors the individual compressor discharge pressures through the use of refrigerant pressure transducers and controls the inlet and bypass water regulating valves for each condenser. The discharge pressure is maintained at a perfect 225 psig under all seawater temperature conditions.
